What do I have to pay before my child starts?

How much will fees rise each year?

The annual increase is capped by KHDA's framework rather than set freely, but it is not the only change a family sees: the step from one year group's published rate to the next applies as well. Ask each school what increase it applied in each of the last three years, and what the published rate is for the next year group up.

Does an employer education allowance cover all of this?

Allowances commonly cover tuition only, which leaves registration, deposit, transport, uniform, devices, meals and examination entries with the family. Confirm which components are covered, whether the employer pays the school directly, and what happens to the balance if employment ends mid-year.

Year-group steps sit on top of any increase

Published tuition rises as a child moves up the school. A family can therefore see two changes in the same year: the school's approved annual increase, and the step from one year group's published rate to the next. Budget against the rate for the year group your child will actually be in.

Published tuition is per year group, not per school

Five steps that put two Dubai schools on the same basis.

Take the published tuition for the exact year group your child will enter in the intake you are applying for — not the school's lowest or headline rate.
Add transport for your home address, quoted by the school for the zone or route you would actually use.
Add the recurring extras: meals if you buy them, uniform in the first year, and any required device or technology programme.
Add examination entries if the year group sits IGCSE, A Level or IB Diploma exams, and any residential trip attached to that year group.
Then, separately, list the one-off joining charges — application, assessment, deposit — and note which are refundable, which are credited and which are neither.

The first four give you the annual running cost. The fifth gives you the cash you need before the first day. Families are usually surprised by the fifth, not the first.
