Confirm the year group each child would enter in Doha. Age cut-offs differ between systems, so the same child can be placed a year apart in two schools.

Places and waiting lists
Which Doha schools have places for your children?
A place is not something a school has in general. It exists for one year group, at one campus, for one intake. Two children in the same family can get two different answers from the same school on the same day.
School websites cannot tell you this. Availability changes when a family leaves, when a contract ends, or when a new year group opens. That is why relevant schools answer directly instead of publishing a number that would be out of date by the time you read it.

Choosing where to live in Doha
We do not rank areas. These are the questions that decide whether a school works day to day.
Curriculum continuity
Families in Doha often arrive on fixed-term contracts. The system you choose determines how easily a later move works.
Demand in popular year groups
Established schools fill early in the primary years, and some run assessment-based entry with waiting lists.
Commute and compound location
Housing is often tied to an employer, so the realistic school set follows where you will live rather than the whole city.
Employer education allowances
Many packages include an education allowance with a cap. Compare the total annual cost per child against that cap, not tuition alone.

Checking each child separately, school by school, is where the search becomes slow. A school that has room in Year 1 may be full in Year 4, and you only learn that after two emails and a wait.

How schooling works in Doha
Private and international schools in Qatar are licensed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which sets registration and curriculum approval requirements.
Regulation and approval
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education licenses private schools in Qatar and approves the curricula they may deliver.
Ask any school to confirm its licence and, where relevant, its curriculum authorisation such as IB authorisation or a British curriculum inspection body.
The school year and intakes
The academic year usually runs from late August to June, with the main intake at the start of the year.
Applications for the following year often open in the preceding autumn or winter at the most in-demand schools.
Fees and allowances
Fees vary sharply between curricula and year groups, and registration, transport and examination fees are typically separate.
If your employer pays an education allowance, confirm what it covers, whether it is paid to you or the school, and what happens if you leave mid-year.
Arabic and Islamic studies
Arabic is taught in schools in Qatar, and Islamic studies applies to Muslim students alongside the main curriculum.
Ask how a school supports children joining with no prior Arabic, and how the subject is timetabled in senior years.

Not checking the campus
Several school groups run more than one Doha campus. Fees, availability and the daily journey differ; always ask about the campus your child would attend.
Overlooking the ministry approval on fees
