How admissions work in Bangalore
Most Bangalore schools follow the same stages, whatever the curriculum.

Confirm the year group each child would enter in Bangalore. Age cut-offs differ between systems, so the same child can be placed a year apart in two schools.

Which Bangalore schools have places for your children?
A place is not something a school has in general. It exists for one year group, at one campus, for one intake. Two children in the same family can get two different answers from the same school on the same day.
School websites cannot tell you this. Availability changes when a family leaves, when a contract ends, or when a new year group opens. That is why we ask schools directly instead of publishing a number that would be out of date by the time you read it.

Choosing where to live in Bangalore
We do not rank areas. These are the questions that decide whether a school works day to day.
Whitefield and Varthur
The largest expatriate cluster, built around tech parks, with several international campuses and gated communities within a short drive.
Sarjapur Road and Bellandur
Fast-growing, well supplied with schools, and heavily congested at peak; commute times swing widely by time of day.
North Bangalore: Hebbal, Yelahanka, Devanahalli
Newer campuses, easier access to the airport, and more space for the money.
Central Bangalore: Indiranagar, Koramangala, Richmond Town
Walkable, established and close to older schools, with higher rents and fewer large campuses.

Moving with more than one child
One school that works for every child, not one child
Most families moving to Bangalore are moving with more than one child, and the hardest part is rarely finding a good school. It is finding one school that can take all of your children in the same year.
Checking each child separately, school by school, is where the search becomes slow. A school that has room in Year 1 may be full in Year 4, and you only learn that after two emails and a wait.

How schooling works in Bangalore
Schools are affiliated to a board rather than centrally run: CBSE and CISCE nationally, the Karnataka state board locally, and Cambridge or IB as international programmes offered by individual schools. Private unaided schools sit within Karnataka's fee and admissions rules, and each publishes its own timeline.
Traffic decides the shortlist
Bangalore's congestion is the practical constraint on school choice. A campus 10 km away can be 70 minutes at 8am and 30 minutes at 11am.
Ask for the school bus route and pick-up time from your exact address. A 6:45am pick-up for a seven-year-old is common in some corridors and worth knowing before you commit.
Board choice and the return move
IB and Cambridge transfer most cleanly if you may leave India again; CBSE and ICSE are the better fit if your children will apply to Indian universities.
Many Bangalore schools offer IGCSE to Grade 10 then IB Diploma. Confirm what the school actually runs in the senior years, not just what it advertises.
Fees, deposits and transport
Tuition is published in rupees per grade and billed per term, with admission fees and a refundable deposit separate.
Transport is charged by distance band and is a real cost here given the routes. Meals, uniform, devices and trips are billed separately too.
Applications and mid-year moves
Main-cycle applications typically run from around November to February for the June intake, with assessments and interviews following.
For a mid-year arrival, ask each school for the current position by grade — availability changes as families rotate out, which happens often in this city.
Documents to prepare
Passports and visas, previous school reports, a transfer certificate from the last school, birth certificate, address proof and immunisation records.
Overseas transfer certificates may need attestation. Collect them before leaving the previous country.

Missing the November–February application window
The main cycle is well ahead of the June start. Late arrivals should ask grade by grade.
